On YouTube I found a very old recording of Grieg playing his “To Spring.” Most listeners believed it was being played much faster than it should be. An interesting discussion followed. Some claimed that Grieg speeded up his playing to fit the piece into the limited time available on the kind of record that was available at that time. Others opined that if Grieg played it that fast, that was the correct speed. To me the most interesting comment was by a listener who called himself petra ananda. “Far too fast,” petra wrote. “What if he wrote it? In fact God wrote it through him. So that means he does not necessarily know it's true tempo.”
More than anything else, I have created this site in order to address two questions:
Why do we, collectively, and to a lesser extent, individually, murder and maim each other in so many ways?
What if anything, can be done about that?
